Privacy Policy

1 Data We Collect

We collect only what is necessary to provide the service:

• ● Account information: your email address and hashed password when you register.
• ● Business name: the name of your boarding or daycare facility (optional).
• ● Pet profiles: pet name, breed, owner name, owner phone and email, special needs, and feeding instructions — entered by you.
• ● Stay and care records: check-in and check-out dates, daily care logs (feedings, walks, medications given, mood notes).
• ● Billing information: if you upgrade to Pro, payment is processed by Stripe. We do not store card numbers — only a Stripe customer ID.
• ● Usage analytics: anonymised page views and interactions collected by Umami Analytics (self-hosted, no cross-site tracking).

2 How We Use Your Data

• ● To operate and provide the PetCheck service — storing and displaying your pet boarding records.
• ● To authenticate your account and keep your data secure.
• ● To process payments and manage your subscription (via Stripe).
• ● To understand how the product is used and improve it (via anonymised analytics).
• ● To respond to support requests you initiate.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data or pet records with any third party for marketing or advertising purposes.

3 Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored on servers located in the European Union (Helsinki, Finland). We take reasonable technical measures to protect your data:

• ● Passwords are hashed using bcrypt — we never store plaintext passwords.
• ● All data is transmitted over HTTPS (TLS encryption in transit).
• ● Authentication tokens expire automatically and are signed with a secret key.
• ● Rate limiting is applied to authentication endpoints to prevent brute-force attacks.

No system is 100% secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at support@petcheck.app.

4 Cookies

PetCheck uses minimal cookies and browser storage:

• ● Auth token: stored in your browser's local storage to keep you logged in. Cleared when you log out.
• ● Umami analytics: a privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics script that does not use persistent cookies and does not track you across sites.

We do not use advertising cookies, third-party tracking pixels, or fingerprinting.

6 Your Rights (GDPR & Privacy)

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

• ● Access: request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
• ● Export: download your stay history and daily logs as CSV files directly from the app at any time.
• ● Correction: update your account details or pet records at any time within the app.
• ● Deletion: request complete deletion of your account and all associated data by emailing support@petcheck.app. We will action this within 30 days.
• ● Portability: export your data in CSV format at any time from within the app.
• ● Objection: object to processing of your personal data in certain circumstances.

EU/EEA residents may also lodge a complaint with their local data protection authority if they believe their rights have been violated.

7 Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you cancel your subscription, your data remains accessible on the free plan. If you request account deletion, all your data is permanently removed within 30 days. Anonymised analytics data (Umami) does not identify you and is retained indefinitely to understand usage trends.

8 Children's Privacy

PetCheck is intended for use by businesses and adults (18+). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9 Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of PetCheck after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
